Some More Blogs of Interest

I've not been posting too frequently as I'm still in laptop limbo. My hard drive packed in and it's now a month since it went in for a repair I was told would take 7 - 10 days. I've now been informed that I'll get it back on Tuesday so hopefully I'll do some catching up with things then. Meantime here are links to a few blogs of hillwalking interest that have caught my eye recently.

Jake Robertson -The Punk Hillwalker is really interesting and different from most of the other hillwalking blogs. He's 17 and the attitude is great and refreshingly different given most hillwalking blogs seem to be written by rather older types like myself!!! This article on the Duke of Edinburgh Syndrome is well worth looking at. I share a lot of the sentiments expressed but I do think its increasingly difficult to encourage younger people out to the hills equipped with the necessary skills. Years ago schools had hillwalking clubs(at least they did in Scotland). They were much more informal affairs than DofE but they've now all dwindled away as teachers have withdrawn from doing anything 'risky' out of school hours.

Another lively newish blog is Aktoman - he posts pretty regularly and first came to my attention when he blogged from the West Highland Way using his mobile phone. I've been meaning to give him a plug for a while.

Finally, Calvin Jones writes a blog called ClimateChangeAction. While the blog is much wider than hillwalking, Calvin lives in Ballater and has a particular interest in the Cairngorms. If climate change is of interest to you, his blog is worth a visit.

New(ish) Hillwalking Blog

I'm always happy to provide a plug and a link to any new hillwalking blogs I find. I recently came across the HennessyBlog which has various posts about walks and other hillwalking / rambling matters. The most recent post takes some of the outdoor magazines to task for failing to supply information for walkers dependent on public transport.

Welcome to the select band of hillwalking bloggers!

New Mountain Blog

As regular visitors to Bagger know, I'm always on the lookout for blogs that have material on hillwalking in Scotland. My latest find is Beaneater (anyone willing to share a tent with someone called beaneater??). Its written by Nicholas Wolverson and a large proportion of the entries are related to his Munro bagging activities. He's obviously a little nervous about losing his readership by writing about hillwalking, so prove him wrong and give his site a visit.
