Airplane Wreckage on Scotland's Mountains

Yesterday's plane crash on the most easterly Munro, Mount Keen, was the latest in a long catalogue of crashes on Scotland's mountains. Off the top of my head I can recall recent crashes of light aircraft on Lochnagar and Liathach and of American fighters on the Cairngorms. I don't suppose it is too surprising given the climate, the high usage of light aircraft and the military training that takes place in the Highlands.

It got me thinking about the amount of wreckage I have seen on the hills and it is quite considerable. I can recall having seen wreckage on Carn an t-Sagairt Mor, on Beinn Eighe and at the Fairy Lochs. In an effort to find out a bit more I tracked down a couple of interesting sites. The Aircraft Crash Sites of Scotland follows the adventures of two men and a dog as they visit these sites. It appears to be pretty comprehensive and has information on the planes and pictures of the sites. I also came across a site about World War 2 crash sites that has a lot of information about those particular crashes.
