Plans to Reintroduce Wolves in Highlands
The Sunday Times reports that the new owner of the Alladale Estate in the Northern highlands has plans to reintroduce wolves to the area. The intention is to seal off the estate, create a reserve and bring in wolves, boar, bison and moose. visitors would then go on safari - presumably paying.
I can't really comment from an animal welfare point of view but such a plan does not seem particularly sensible. To seal off such a large area safely would be difficult. And from a hillwalking point of view this would completely restrict access to a large tract of wild land in the Highlands - quite unacceptable.
Seemingly the full plans are to be revealed next week - I'll keep an eye out and update as necessary.
